What will this course cover?
This course will be broken down into five units:
1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. Things Fall Apart
3. Choice book
4. Media literacy unit
5. A Raisin in the Sun
*Each novel will include a reading, writing, and speaking/listening component. If you are uncomfortable with any novel we read, we’ll find an alternative selection.
What do I bring to class?
1. Notebook (used exclusively for this class)
2. Folder (used exclusively for this class)
3. Pencil/Pen
4. Planner
Participation:
During each unit, you will receive participation points. What factors into these points: 1.) showing up on time 2.) staying until the bell 3.) participating in novel/class discussions
Excused absences:
It is YOUR responsibility to talk to me about what you missed and if you are allowed to make it up.
Unexcused absences:
You will receive a zero for the day’s assignment. You cannot make it up.
Late work
*Points will be deducted for each day it is late.
*Once we have moved on to another unit you may NOT hand in old work. For example: If we are in the middle of Julius Caesar and you want to hand in an old Animal Farm essay---forget it.
All major assignments must be turned in to pass the course. Students who do not complete all required work will receive an F at the end of the 4th quarter. No work can be made up after the completion of the year.
Plagiarized essays will receive a zero with no chance to resubmit. Cheating on tests or assignments will result in a zero with no chance to retake the test.
